Still I Fly
I will make a confession: I didn’t watch Planes: Fire and Rescue when it came out, but what I did watch was the cover of Still I Fly by Austin Percario and Macy Kate (with Kurt Hugo Schneider, Jason Pitts and Joel Manduke) and damn if it wasn’t one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard.
The artwork is meant to resemble a plane wing, hence the odd shape.
No Man is an Island
This artwork was commissioned by 90.9 KLRC, a Christian music radio station in Arkansas. It’s meant to accompany their fundraising letter for their Hope is Rising program. I had never heard of the song before then, but the lyrics touched me when I heard them. I didn’t mind having it on loop throughout the duration of the project.
This quote was said by comic artist Bill Watterson, the man behind Calvin and Hobbes. That’s why the artwork features the iconic picture of Calvin and his tiger crossing the stream. I have some work in progress shots squirreled away in my Tumblr. It was a bit nerve-wracking during the traditional inking process.
Next Best Thing
This song is by the amazing duo of Sam Tsui and Kurt Hugo Schneider, my favorite YouTube artists. It’s got a lot of quotable quotes in its lyrics, such as “We could be a symphony, but I’m always second string,” and “But now I see that I was never gonna be your Mr. Right; just Mr. Right next in line.”
